Mape Tours
Our journey began in 2010, under the vision of Jane Flood (1957 – 2021). At the time, the focus was on walking tours. The early tours explored Pancho Guedes’ iconic buildings, Art Deco architecture, the Top 10 historical sites of downtown Maputo, and the city’s art scene.
But Jane’s vision went far beyond tourism. She believed deeply in empowering young people financially, intellectually, and culturally, through knowledge of their own city. To bring this vision to life, she gathered a group of committed young talents, among them Walter Tembe (†2024), widely regarded as one of the most knowledgeable and insightful guides Maputo has ever known.
Over the years, Maputo a Pé grew into a major reference point for cultural tourism in Mozambique, being featured by international media outlets such as CNN, The Telegraph, and Travel Weekly. More importantly, it became a school without walls.
As a continuation of Jane’s original vision, we have trained dozens of independent tour guides, many of whom are now among the most respected guides working in Mozambique today.
Today, Mape Tours offers customized tours and experiences that go beyond walking, including tuk-tuk tours, boat and island excursions, safaris, nature-based experiences, and transfers, all while remaining rooted in authenticity, local knowledge, and respect for people and place.
Looking ahead, 2026 marks a renewed commitment to deeper community engagement, expanded outreach initiatives, and collaborations that ensure tourism creates meaningful, lasting impact.
