Who are we?

Mape Tours is a company specializing in guided tours across a wide range of themes, from culture, history, and architecture, beach outings, culinary experiences and more. One of our primary goals is to continue promoting support to local tourism initiatives and to make a positive impact by raising awareness of sustainable tourism as a powerful benefit for our communities' growth. We aim to foster community development by involving the right people in these efforts.

Our history

Mape Tours (Maputo a Pe tours), is more than a tour company; it's a vision extending beyond Maputo to the rest of Mozambique and even other countries like Eswatini, Lesotho, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Founded by the late Jane Flood, a passionate English woman who came to Mozambique around 2008 with her partner, Maputo a Pe began with Jane’s deep love for Maputo’s architecture and history. After volunteering with VSO, Jane connected with the city and its rich heritage, particularly admiring the work of the renowned architect Pancho Guedes. Her first architectural tour, inspired by Guedes, was created with the help of a local architecture student Walter Tember. Both Jane and Walter have passed away, yet their legacy lives on, celebrated and honored through each tour we develop.

Under Jane’s guidance, Maputo a Pé grew rapidly, training countless locals and inspiring some to start their own businesses. Over the years, Mape Tours began collaborating with Maputo City Hall on significant events and running internships for tourism students. When Jane discovered she had cancer in 2019, she returned to England for treatment, entrusting her beloved business to a group of young locals. She spent her final days peacefully in Zanzibar and passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic due to Cancer. Determined to honor her legacy, the team she mentored continues to carry forward her vision and mission, expanding the business while preserving her spirit of curiosity and love for Mozambique.

Walter, the first local guide and Jane's close collaborator, was another essential figure in our story. Known for his vast knowledge and mentorship, Walter trained most of our current guides before sadly passing from throat cancer in 2024. Today, we honor both Jane and Walter by continuing their work, training new guides, and collaborating with more people such as artists, restaurants, and hotels to enrich possibilities. Mape Tours remains committed to highlighting Mozambique’s amazing destinations.
